Well, as usual, I took way too many photos. This one is my favourite.

I’ve uploaded a whole bunch on flickr, and am slowly going through adding titles and more detailed info. But if you read the blog you should be able to follow them because for the most part they are chronological.

Check the photo set over the next week or so. I’ll keep adding information as I have time.

Now I’ll have to get back to neighbourhood blogging until the next trip.

We spent today driving the Pacific Coast Highway (with no help from Bridget) just past Malibu, and the made a few stops along the way. At one of those stops we stumbled across a really buff guy. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s not the same as the tacky over-the-top one in San Francisco, and there weren’t any value-priced menus, but it did offer a great view of the sunset and the feeling that you were actually riding the waves. Read the rest of this entry »

We’ve finally made it to Los Angeles (actually Redondo Beach) after an almost 9 hour drive from Flagstaff. We’re a bit cramped up from sitting in the car for so long, but happy to be not too far from the beach. From desert to beach in a day! Read the rest of this entry »

I was all set to go to the Grand Canyon (again) to watch the sunrise, but couldn’t convince Rob. Instead I looked out the hotel window as the sky changed from dark to pink, then orange and yellow. The breakfast room was crowded this morning, filled with weekenders using Flagstaff as their base to explore the canyon. Probably a good thing we didn’t go.

I didn’t think I’d ever end up in Arizona, but here we are in Flagstaff, so named becaue of the pine tree that was stripped of its branches to fly the American flag in celebration in1876. The flagstaff became a landmark and in May 1881 when enough people had arrived at the railroad camp to justify a post office, the name Flagstaff was chosen. Read the rest of this entry »

In my last post, I mentioned that my mule Charlie had to be pulled up part of today’s hike. Well as I said goodbye I realized that Charlie is probably heading off to retirement. He’s about 14 years old, and that’s pretty old for a mule to be going up and down the canyon. Read the rest of this entry »
