Today we walked downtown for my semi annual haircut and to check out Kontinuum.

On the way there, the former location of the Flying Banzini was quiet. But on the way back, the windows were open and the new owners were busy. They hope to open Lupulus, a craft beer bar with restaurant,  in early October. This is an addition to the neighbourhood I like to see.

And it will offset the closure of Simple (?) in the Ashcroft wind tunnel.

It has been a while since I’ve posted. I have been hiking and cycling and hiding from all this rain.

But today we ventured out by foot and it gave me time to notice some additions and subtractions:

Satin and Snow is a new bridal boutique beside Red Salon. It started as a wedding planner and now has a retail presence. It should fit in nicely with the wedding dress shop just down the street.

Bija Bijoux is now gone. When I was working,  I used to go there all the time. I still love my snowflake earrings and necklace.  I tracked her down on twitter, and she closed up on June 9 and is focusing on online only.  That’s what happens when you cycle down Wellington …. you focus on not getting doored or run off the road.

+ Coming soon next to the Foot Lab (opposite the Bagel Shop) is Snack Attic, a soft serve ice cream parlour offering lactose free and gluten free options. I couldn’t find a web presence. When I googled it, I kept getting pest control companies. Be careful what you name your company….. But I do love a good soft serve icecream. And we already have some good icecream and gelato shops.

20170630_153643.jpg+ The former location of Ravensara is becoming yet another barber shop called The Foxhole. I think we have almost as many barber shops as hair salons. I had no idea men would spend money on facial grooming. What will happen when beards are no longer cool?

+ Stella Luna is now open and we stopped by to try some of their amazing gelato. Delish!!

+ Coming soon in the same building is Nu, a zero waste grocery store.

+ Camping at Tom Brown Arena for Canada 150 and wow you can see the LRT station taking shape at Bayview. The weather is just not cooperating for Canada’s 150th birthday party. But at least the grass is nice and green!

Just when you think our neighbourhood is coffee saturated  …. saw this sign by the Westboro Farmboy

It’s been a while since I’ve posted.  I’ve been so busy actually living that I’ve had no time to blog.

But today you’re getting an update from one of our many Bridgeheads.

It’s not that I haven’t been out in the hood taking pics of changes and additions. I just haven’t gotten it all together.

So here goes …

Anytime Fitness looks like it’s about to open. The paper in the windows is gone.

The Wine Rack has opened but has been empty of customers each time I’ve walked by.

And dentists are different.  That building … not sure about what to make of it.

Much has been made about the big snowfall that started last weekend. Initial forecasts called for 25 cm. I don’t think we got that much but it did catch a lot of drivers off guard.

And following my bicycle flat tire last Friday, I’m back to walking around the hood.

Here’s what I noticed in Hintonburg / Wellington West:

A Wine Rack is going into the former location of Three Tarts.

I noticed this mural on the side wall of Maker House (where Wellington turns into Somerset). I’m not sure how long it’s been there, but you really can’t appreciate it if you’re cycling or driving .

Suzy Q’s new location seems to have the final touches. I like it but kind of miss the original wooden sign.

The former location of World of Maps is finally leased. But I have no idea what it is.

And lastly, Allegro Retrospektive former location is also leased. The new tenant is something called Kindred Shop and Studio.

AND THE REDBLACKS ARE IN THE GREY CUP!!

Today the autumn sun felt warmer than November. After I had run a few errands by bike, I contemplated a longer ride.

But it was so nice, I decided to walk and see what was new.

Today’s hike was cancelled because of rain. So when the sun came out, I decided to go for a walk.

Along the way, I noticed some new-to-me things:

  • The building that houses Viens avec moi and a yoga studio was getting a paint job. Not a fan of painting bricks, but it did look sharp in black.
  • Hintonburg’s Eddy building has a new tenant: Royal Palm Thrift and Gift
  • And Suzy Q’s new location also got a paint job

The goal for this morning’s walk was Albert Island. I was curious to see any progress in access to the Zibi side, especially since the next Brewery Market is taking place there on October 22,  instead of Hintonburg. Sorry to report that the gates were locked. I did see some great autumn leaves along the river. And cyclists were even using their bells thus morning! Read the rest of this entry »

October 16 is World Food Day. This year’s theme is Climate is Changing. Food and Agriculture must too.

If you’re interested in a local event, you can find out more about a community walkathon to support these organizations:

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. What can I say. Life is good and I’ve been busy.
