I’ve been meaning to post for a while, but life has been a bit hectic. Cycling on the folding Dahon has become a big part of my life lately, well until the stationary tumble last weekend that left me bruised in strange places. But I digress. This post isn’t about cycling. It’s about walking around in the hood and seeing what you notice that’s new.

The former location of Cambridge Design Gallery is now leased. And thankfully I did procrastinate, because today when we walked by the door was open and somebody was sitting on the front step eating a sandwich. So of course we had to cross the street to take a peek inside. We started chatting to the woman, who is the sister of one of the co-owners. She said the store should be open in September. You may recall I posted back in March about the Twiss and Webber  a pop up store in the former location of Alteriors (just a bit farther west).

And speaking of Alteriors … that space is also leased but alas entirely empty with no sign of life. So got nothing for you there.

If you drink or eat at The Wood on Wellington, you may have been surprised to find the door locked today. But don’t panic because it was for a good reason. The owner(s) were getting married.

Around Holland and Wellington a couple of new things:

  • Pho Van Van has vacated its location just north of Wellington and will be re-opening in the new Domicile building just south of Wellington.
  • In its place is another Vietnamese restaurant Asian Village Vietnamese Cuisine, not yet open but the sign is up
  • the pharmacy and medical clinic is open beside the Royal Oak. They’re looking for patients if you need a family doc.
  • A liquor license application that was in Euphoria hair salon is down now. Not sure if that means there will be martinis while your hair sets or not.
  • The Foolish Chicken has been rated highly on TripAdvisor and now has a plaque on the outside to prove it. Mmmm, I miss their chicken and ribs …. have to get there soon.

And down in Hintonburg, the Eddy scaffolding has been erected. And pilers are at the site. Should be interesting to see what happens once that site is filled. Will Suzy Q be able to afford the rent still? BTW, we shared an AMAZING warm gooey maple bacon today. I’m so glad I don’t smell them every morning. Although you can get them now at Illume.

ZaZaZa pizza is almost ready to open. They’re holding a job fair I think this Monday. Walk by to check for sure.

And ProShine has vacated its corner at Island Park. Mizrahi has changed the free standing sign to its namesake. No developments inside the building though.

And lastly, Westboro Beach is having another Movies on the Beach. On July 19, it will be The Hunger Games.

Sorry that this is scattered. But now it’s all out there I can go have a drink!
