Newish to the \'hood\'Today at lunch, Micha’s Dad met us for lunch. We had thought of going to the Royal Oak, but I suggested he might want to try Vina Del Mar on Wellington. You may recall Nosy Neighbour stuck his head in the day before they opened in mid-January. Read the rest of this entry »

The first daffodil in the garden Spring brings new things to the garden and also to the neighbourhood. Around the garden, the tulips are growing but not yet flowering (maybe tomorrow) and my one lone daffodil is sticking its head out now. There were others but I think the squirrels dug up the bulbs last fall. Unfortunately when Spring took away the snow it didn’t take all the lilac brush that we left in the backyard. Rob spent a weekend putting it all in bags or tying it with twine.

We often hear sirens because we’re near a hospital and a few  major arteries. So usually I don’t think it’s got to do with our neighbourhood. Okay, there was that one time when the firetrucks stopped in front of the Porters, but they went into the church basement to do first aid until the paramedic arrived.

Well last year’s playoff run was really exciting. We even got to see Ottawa beat the Devils in Game 5 in New Jersey. Lucked out being in New York City for the Five Boro Bike Tour and happened to get a sweet deal on tickets. Read the rest of this entry »

We’ve been dying to know what’s happening with the grand old red-brick house on Wellington at Granville. Every morning we walk by and see workers going in, and boxes piled up at the end of the day. In fact, just the other day, Rob went up to check what was in the garbage (ya, he’s the nosy neighbour, I just gossip about what he finds out). The garbage didn’t tell us anything. A beautiful Spring day, not a cloud in the sky, and the first day where it’s been warm enough to walk around the ‘hood without a jacket. We walked down to Hintonburg and didn’t even bring one along just in case. As long as you stayed in the sun, it was positively delightful. Lots of new things happening today. There’s Allo Allo Cafe, Carbonation, and the new laundry place in the old laundry place location is due to open on Monday.
